Beyond Beethoven 9 – a Southbank Centre Project with Marin Alsop

Marin Alsop will conduct Southbank Centre‘s performance of this iconic symphony with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain appearing alongside a 200-strong choir performing a new re-written English version of Schiller’s Ode To Joy that will embody Beethoven’s message of unity, fraternity and hope. Suzi will be leading the choir and preparing them for the performances.

Four new commissions will be performed before and in between Beethoven’s four original movements. Each commission was written by quoting and adapting the original musical material, in an approach inspired by Beethoven’s own typical method.

More than 400 performers fill Royal Festival Hall for the concert.

The performances will take place on 16th and 18th April 2020.  To book tickets, click here.
