Create and Sing Carmen for the Royal Opera House

Create and Sing Carmen, the Royal Opera House’s dramatic singing programme for schools, launched nationally in 2017.  The programme was developed by the Royal Opera House with an artistic team comprising Hazel Gould (writer and director), Pete Letanka (composer), Suzi Zumpe (vocal director).

Schools choose different levels of engagement with the programme, ranging from a two lesson taster, to an immersive 10 lesson plan. The project is aimed at children in primary schools and equips teachers with the skills and resources to create their own class performance inspired by the music and story of Bizet’s opera, Carmen.  The immersive 10-lesson version comprises weekly films, lesson plans, specially arranged material and backing tracks. All resources are available on the Royal Opera House’s website and are free and available to all.
